The proposed construction of the Botswana-Zambia bridge is in good progress officials have announced. The Kazungula Bridge is on the border between Botswana and Zambia. Botswana’s Permanent Secretary Ministry of Transport and Communications, Neil Fitt and Zambia’s Acting Permanent Secretary Ministry of Works and Supply, Joe Kapembwa said construction of a temporary bridge on the Zambian side has been completed while the Botswana side will be completed in June. Zambia’s side was also constructing a permanent bridge. Construction of offices and staff accommodation has also progressed, with some of the offices already occupied.
Kenya has on Wednesday unveiled plans to construct largest solar power plant in East Africa to be located at North Eastern town of Garissa. The 55MW solar power plant is aimed at boosting Kenya’s vision 2030. The US$ 128m solar farm will have 210,210 solar panels and is expected to be the largest power plant in East and Central Africa. It will be constructed by China Jiangxi using a loan from China’s Exim Bank. The project which is will take 12 months to be complete is anticipated to produce enough power to light up approximately 625,000 homes; this is according to The Rural Electrification Authority (REA), this is the agency that has been contracted to build the solar farm.
The construction of concrete roads in Nigeria has began in earnest after Ashaka Cement Plc, a subsidiary of Lafarge Africa Plc and member of LafargeHolcim commenced early this week the construction of an 8km concrete road in Maiganga, Gombe State in Nigeria. According to Mallam Suleiman Yahyah, Ashaka Cement PlcChairman, Board of Directors, the road project aims at contributing to the socio-economic development of Gombe State. The Concrete Road project is among the few project projects Lafarge Africa Plc has embarked on in the past few months.
Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) Joint Venture has announced that more gas is being produced from Agbada field in the Eastern Niger Delta in support of federal government's aspiration of increasing domestic gas production for manufacturing and power generation. This development is coming at a time Nigeria's power supply has dropped significantly due to gas shortages to power stations Power generation, which hit 5,074 megawatts on February 2, dropped to about 3,700MW yesterday due to gas shortages and transmission challenges.
