UAE's Etihad in Garuda codeshares, more Melbourne capacity
Abu Dhabi-owned Etihad Airways has announced it will operate to four new destinations in Indonesia and increase capacity on its Melbourne flights.
Chief Executive James Hogan said the expansion of the airline’s partnership with Garuda Indonesia meant it would have ten code share destinations, giving it “unprecedented†access to 6m domestic travellers as well as opportunities for commercial ties with the oil, gas and mining industries in the region.
Etihad has code shares with more than 40 airlines, and last week announced a partnership with Kenya Airways.
It also announced 252 more seats would be available weekly on flights between Abu Dhabi and Melbourne, Australia, with the introduction of a new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft from December 1.
Earlier this month the airline added flights to Pakistan and Sudan.
The airline posted a 200 percent increase in profits last year, reaching US$42m.
It attributed the record revenue of US$4.8bn to more passengers (up 23 percent to 10.3m) and strategic alliances with other international carriers.
