It is equipped with a 1.7GHz dual core processor. The smartphone boasts of an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and 1.9-megapixel HD front-facing camera. According to Samsung, photos taken by Galaxy S4 Mini are automatically gathered and saved according to the user's timeline.
"Users can simultaneously listen to the same music and play the games together with friends using Group Play feature, and chat with multiple friends and add animations, video and voice recordings to messages using ChatON," says the press release.
The Galaxy S4 Mini will be available in two colours, White Frost and Black Mist. Commercial availability of the Galaxy S4 Mini supporting either 4G LTE, or 3G HSPA+ or 3G Dual SIM, will be determined by market.
Last week, Samsung said that global sales of Galaxy S4 smartphone had topped 10 million units less than a month after its debut.
A company statement said the Galaxy S4 had already topped the 10-million sales mark worldwide following its April 26 launch. It's predecessor, the S3, had taken 50 days to pass the same threshold.
The world's top handset maker hopes the S4 will expand its presence in high-end markets in the United States and elsewhere, and crowd out archrival Apple and its iconic iPhone.
Unexpectedly strong pre-orders for the S4 led some US mobile carriers to temporarily delay scheduled sales in late April. Samsung is believed to have sold about 60 million units of the popular S3 model since its debut in May 2012.
The S4, featuring a high-definition, five-inch (12.7-centimetre) screen and enhanced picture-taking capabilities, comes with a faster chip and is thinner and lighter than its predecessor.
