Kirloskar Brothers Completed a Decade of Acquisition of SPP Pumps in UK

Kirloskar Brothers Limited celebrated a decade of togetherness with SPP Pumps UK, which the fluid management company acquired on November 7, 2003. Prior to the acquisition, the two companies had traded for almost 4 decades.

According to Kirloskar Brothers, its association with SPP Pumps has witnessed sales in the UK going up by 280% while sales in oil and gas fire-sets have risen by a 560%. The company contributed £ 1.5 million in income tax to the exchequer.

Today, SPP operates out of two sites in the UK, with an office based in the city of Reading and the manufacturing facility based in Coleford, Gloucestershire. There are also five smaller, regionally based service centres. In addition, there are overseas facilities in Dubai, France, South Africa, Singapore and the United States.

Alok Kirloskar manages this £ 68 million company. Addressing the SPP Pumps employees and other stakeholders he said: "SPP Pumps was a strategic acquisition in that it was done with a purpose to expand our product offerings across continents. Today SPP Pumps is present across high-tech industries such as oil and gas production, water and waste water treatment, power generation, construction, mines and large industrial plants. In the next decade we intend to double our market presence, and continue with our sales CAGR of 20% with profits CAGR of 15%."

Former Managing Director, Owen Shevlin who was involved in assembling the team in 2003 and turning around the company said: "I am delighted to see the blossoming of partnership between SPP Pumps and Kirloskar Brothers. The power of two has worked wonders for SPP Pumps - we have turned around a company that was once on a downhill and spun it in to a star performer."

Between the two, SPP Pumps and Kirloskar Brothers boast 138 years and 93 years of experience respectively. SPP Pumps recently inaugurated its new facility at Atlanta USA, the seventh manufacturing facility of Kirloskar Brothers worldwide. With the opening of the new facility SPP Pumps' production capacity will increase by 30% and the turnover is expected to reach $ 40 million in the next three years.

"SPP has not only performed well financially but has also been recognised by its peers having won Manufacturer of the Year twice and many other awards. We have trained many apprentices, not moved any job outside of UK and doubled local employment from 175 to 350," said Graham Terry, SPP's director and general manager of Europe.
