Suzlon arm REpower Systems bags order from Australian firm

NEW DELHI: Wind turbine major Suzlon Group today said it has signed a contract with Mitsui & Co for setting up 106.6 MW windfarm in Australia.

"Suzlon Group-subsidiary REpower Systems SE announced the conclusion of an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract with Mitsui & Co (Australia) to deliver 52 wind turbines with a total rated output of 106.6 MW for the Bald Hills windfarm in Victoria, Australia," the company said in a statement.

The contract is combined with a service contract for the next 10 years, with a further five year option. It is the first contract for REpower with Mitsui & Co.

"This contract is a milestone for our business in Australia. After a considerable effort of planning, we now look forward to delivering the Bald Hills Wind Farm in collaboration," Andreas Nauen, CEO, REpower Systems SE, said.

The turbines, which will be delivered in 2014 and commissioned in 2015, are expected to produce up to 3,80,000 MWh (megawatt-hour) of electricity per year, enough to power over 62,000 homes, the statement added.

Suzlon shares were trading at Rs 9.67, up 5.91 per cent on the BSE in the afternoon trade.
