  • South Africa unveils first locomotive to be manufactured in Africa

    Transnet which is South Africa’s rail company recently unveiled the first locomotive to be designed, engineered and manufactured in Africa, the Trans-Africa locomotive.

    Transnet Chief Executive Officer, Siyabonga Gama confirmed the news and said that the new locomotive, which will be assembled at the company’s production facility in Koedoespoort, east of Pretoria, symbolized a crucial and vital step in its strategy of becoming a leading manufacturer and supplier of rolling stock in Africa.

  • Century Power plans to construct 495MW power plant in Nigeria

    In West Africa, a Nigerian-based power generation company, Century Power has announced that it plans to construct a power plant in Nigeria that will produce 1,500MW of electricity, which will be fed into the nation’s power grid.

    According to Media, the plant will be constructed in three stages at the Century Power Generation Plant in Okija, Anambra State, starting with 495MW, which is estimated to be finished in 2020.

    Presently, the company’s managing director, Dr. Chukwueloka Umeh, contributed in a panel discussion held in the US, where he raised some of challenge facing the power sector in Nigeria.

  • Waste –to- energy plant launched in South Africa

    The New Horizons Energy Waste –to- energy plant, to be launched in Athlone by Western Cape Premier Helen Zille and Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille, will manufacture bio-methane and carbon dioxide by the middle of the year.

    It is anticipated to generate 80 full-time jobs and numerous hundred indirectly, and will guzzle 500t of waste daily – approximately 10% of Cape Town’s total.
