Nigeria to become Africa’s mobile phones manufacturing hub

Nigeria is on the path to become Africa’s mobile phones manufacturing hub after mobile maker InnJoo announced that it plans to construct a phone manufacturing and assembling plant in the country.

According to the company, the initiative will assist in promoting technology transfer and open a new vista of employment and other openings for the youth in the region since a vast population of energetic young men and women in the country remains strategic for its business.

Construction of East Africa Standard Gauge Railway to start December

The construction of the most anticipated East Africa Standard Gauge Railway is set to kick off in December, Tanzania’s Minister for Works has announced.

Professor Makame Mbarawa said that the railway line will link Tanzania and land locked East African countries of Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi and facilitate transport in the central corridor.

Renewable energy in Ghana gets major funding

Renewable energy in Ghana has received a shot in the arm after the Ministry of Finance approved US$230m budget for the Scaling-up Renewable Energy Investment Plan (SREP-IP) under the Climate Investment Fund.

The budget approval for renewable energy in Ghana will allow the government to invest more in the mini-grid sector which is projected to increase the country’s renewable energy generation capacity in order to attain the price reduction in electricity.

Kenyans to run standard gauge railway once complete

The standard gauge railway in Kenya will be fully run by Kenyans after its construction is completed the country’s transport ministry has said. The government of Kenya sees skills transfer as a major issue in order to ensure seamless operation and management of the railway line upon its official launch.

Kenya’s Principal Secretary for Transport Irungu Nyakera says that the current jobs that are being done by the Chinese will be left to Kenyans who are currently training on Railway technology.
